Robert Sheldon Oliver

Robert Sheldon Oliver, 90, died on July 18, 2010. Bob was a practicing architect, a professor of architecture at ASU, and a celebrated painter. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. After serving in the army during World War II, he was employed for several years as an architect in San Francisco. He worked for the Arabian American Oil Company in Rome, Italy, and The Hague, Netherlands, designing schools in Saudi Arabia. He then established his own practice for eight years in Marysville, California. In 1963, he joined the faculty of the School of Architecture at ASU, where he taught for over 25 years. He published three books on the art of sketching, two of which were translated into German and Chinese. Bob was also an award-winning artist who painted in watercolor, acrylic, and collage. He was a member of several art societies and associations. Bob is survived by his wife, Joan Lee Oliver, by four children and four grandchildren.
