Ricardo Provencio earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University and earned his Master’s Degree from the University of New Mexico.

He enlisted in the Army and served a full tour of Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Pro worked for Chandler, Gilbert and Glendale Community Colleges, then at Arizona State University, and finished his career of educating and guiding young adults to their dreams at South Mountain Community College.

He had many hobbies and interests. Pro loved being outdoors, hiking, fishing, hunting and just enjoying nature. He loved his Sun Devils, Phoenix Suns, Cardinals and Diamondbacks.

Pro’s passion was the Chicano Movement. He dedicated 35 years as a counselor, director, and professor establishing and improving educational recruitment and retention for Latino/Hispanic Students. He was also actively involved in organizations such as Chicanos Por La Causa, Mexican American Educators to name a few.

Pro was the first President of ASU’s Los Diablos, an organization providing scholarships to Arizona Latino/ Hispanic Students.

He is survived by his wife, Merlinda Provencio; three daughters; three grandchildren; three brothers; and a sister.

Services were held to honor the life on Feb. 18, 2023.
