Rayna Barroll Aschaffenburg
Professor of Piano Performance
Rayna Barroll Aschaffenburg, 86, passed away December 20, 2016. She completed her college degree at the University of Texas. In 1968 she was appointed as a music professor at Fisk University. In 1969-1970 she received her Master's Degree in music at Rutgers University. In 1970, she moved to Columbia, SC where she taught music part-time at the University of South Carolina and continued giving music lessons and concerts until 1975. Rayna received her PhD in Piano Performance at the University of Maryland in 1980. She then became a Professor of Piano Performance at ASU until she retired in 2000. Rayna is survived by three children, three grandchildren, her first husband, Dr. J. Leeds Barroll, a brother and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and her husband, Dr. Walter Aschaffenburg, a world-renowned composer.
