Peter K. Stein
Professor in Engineering
Peter ("Pete") K. Stein, 87, died on June 8, 2016. Born in Vienna in 1928, he lived in Shanghai from 1938 until 1947, when he came to the U.S. to continue his education. After earning three degrees from M.I.T., he moved to Phoenix in 1955 to work at AiResearch, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1956. In 1959 he was recruited to the faculty at ASU's new school of engineering, where he pioneered the discipline of measurement systems engineering and gained international renown. He served as a full professor from 1963-77. He also lectured in "short courses" (in-service training of engineers) in dozens of countries from 1953-2000. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, a son and daughter, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
