November 2022 NE Arizona Tour

For many of us, this trip was a bucket list experience. Anticipation was high and the experience exceeded expectations! What made this trip special to me was the people: everyone was there to learn, see and enjoy. We had a busy three days, but it resulted in making good friends, much laughter and visiting incredible sights.

The first and last day consisted of reasonably long drives. Particularly on the drive up to northern Arizona, Robert Brabson (fearless guide/calm driver from Detours Tours), provided us with a wealth of information about the landscape and history of the areas. We peppered him (OK, I did more than most!) with questions: he was difficult to stump! At each of the destinations (Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, and Canyon de Chelly), we had prearranged tours (two at Canyon de Chelly, in fact), allowing us to maximize our enjoyment.

Local Navajo guides were not only knowledgeable, but incredibly kind (and pretty funny, as well!). I have been on plenty of tours where you quickly realize the leader is bored with the process, due to delivering it daily. However, each of our guides was animated and excited to be sharing not only information about the site but also their culture and expertise. My own understanding of not only the destinations but the history of this part of Arizona increased tremendously,

Every day was filled with highlights and “wow” moments – too many to share in a short review. We crammed a great deal into three days, but it was an experience that I will always cherish, both for the incredible visits and the friendships. Thanks to my other 12 fellow explorers for making this such a special trip.
