Maximo Calo Gacula, Jr.
Dr. Maximo Calo Gacula, Jr., 73, passed away on May 5, 2010. Max received a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from the University of the Philippines and came to the US to pursue his Master's degree in Agricultural Science at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. He received a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA. Max was a pioneer in the field of statistical research and worked in the Research and Development department at the Armour/Dial Corporation for 30 years. After retiring from Dial, he continued to work as an independent contractor to several companies as a statistician and was an adjunct faculty at ASU. He authored 4 books in the field of statistical analysis and founded the scientific journal The Journal of Sensory Studies. He is survived by his wife, Amalia, three daughters, three grandchildren, and six sisters.
