Maureen Hannley, 72, passed away on August 3, 2015. Maureen earned a PhD in Auditory Sciences and Biocommunication from Baylor College of Medicine, as well as a Master's and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona. She joined ASU in 1976 where she was professor and founding chairman of the Department of Speech and Hearing Science. She also held faculty appointments at Stanford University College of Medicine, Duke University College of Medicine and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Most recently, she was appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor in Otolaryngology at the University Of Arizona College Of Medicine. As Chief Research Officer of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, she initiated and expanded the research programs of the Academy. Dr. Hannley received awards for significant contributions to research and for advancing research training in otolaryngology. She was formerly Health Services Administrator and Director of the Hearing Research Program at the NIH National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. Maureen is survived by her mother, two children, three grandchildren, six siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister. A memorial service is planned for August 9, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E. Grant Road, Tucson, AZ. (Source: Arizona Republic)
