Louisa Burke Gerking
Louisa Burke Gerking, 95, passed away on May 10, 2016. Louisa’s husband was Dr. Shelby D. Gerking (1918-1998) who was chair of the Zoology Department at ASU beginning in 1967 before retiring as professor emeritus. Louisa was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Arizona chapter of Planned Parenthood and earned the organization’s prestigious Peggy Goldwater Award for her dedication to service. She was a member of the ASU Faculty Wives, president of the Arizona Society of Arts and Letters, active in the League of Women Voters, and a docent at the Phoenix Art Museum. Louisa is survived by three sons, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
