Louis Hill
Asst. Professor, Civil Engineering - 1958 to 1981

Louis Hill, 87, passed away January 23, 2015 (estimated). Louis served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines from 1945-1947, and again in Japan from 1951-1953. He worked as a firefighter in Tulsa, OK. and later as a Civil Engineer in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City, OK, prior to his long academic career. Louis earned three degrees from Oklahoma State University: B.A in Political Science, B.S. Civil Engineering and M.S. Civil Engineering. He earned a Ph.D. in Civil engineering from Case Institute of Technology, (now Case Western Reserve). He began his teaching career in 1958 at ASU as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering and taught until he became Chair of the Civil Engineering Department from 1974-1981. He served as Dean of Engineering at the University of Akron (Ohio) from 1981-1988. He then became the Assoc. VP of Research & Graduate Studies before retiring later that year. Louis authored several technical books including two involving structural design, one regarding FORTRAN programming and numerous journal publications. Louis was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jeanne. He is survived by a brother, a sister, a daughter, two sons and four grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, 3421 N. Hayden Rd, Scottsdale. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials may be made in Louis' name to Scottsdale Presbyterian Church or to the Urological Research Foundation for prostate cancer research at www.drcatalona.com/contributions.asp (Source: Arizona Republic)
