Lawrence "Larry" George Blackmon, 91, passed away on September 13, 2010, at Westminster Village in Scottsdale, Arizona. Larry was born August 16, 1919, in Orlando, Florida. In 1940, he graduated from Yale University after which began his long career in the steel industry. He served in World War II and was proudly commissioned at Fontainebleau in 1945. On June 14, 1941, he married Louise Armstrong of Sharon, PA. Louise preceded him in death in 1990 after 49 years of marriage. In 1947, he joined the National Malleable and Steel Castings Company. In 1968, Larry joined Microdot, Inc., as President of the Valley Mould Division. In 1970, he moved to Microdot's corporate headquarters in Connecticut where he became President and Chief Executive Officer. He was Microdot's Chairman of the Board from 1984 until his retirement. Larry was an avid reader and collector of 18th century literature and letters. First editions filled the shelves of his personal library. He was also very active in university library activities and endowed book collecting contests at Boston University and Arizona State University. On October 12, 2003, Larry married Charl Warburton. He said to his dying day that he was the luckiest man in the world to have had two wonderful marriages. He is survived by his beloved wife, Charl Warburton of Scottsdale, daughters Mary Ellen Day (Doug) of Prescott, Arizona, and Etta Louise Sockel (Rick) of Cleveland, Ohio, two grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
