June 2023 lessons from ASURA retirees
Lessons from Retirees will feature three articulate and insightful panelists, all recent retirees from ASU who will share their experiences and advice for those considering retirement in the near future.
- Carl Cross (retired 2005, Univ Library - Tempe)
- Jan Thompson (retired 2012, School of Music - Tempe)
- Paul Harper (retired 2011, Info. Tech - West Valley campus)
Carl Cross is a past president of ASURA and is currently the Chairman of the Membership Committee. He retired in August 2015 after 51 years with ASU Libraries and immediately joined ASURA. While attending Tempe Union High School, he observed daily the progress as ASU Gammage was being built. Mr. Cross has been a part of ASU Gammage since it opened in 1964 and performed in “My Fair Lady” with the University Players on the Gammage stage. He continues to support the arts as a Gammage VIP Donor.
Janice Meyer Thompson has enjoyed a diverse career as piano soloist, collaborative artist, duo pianist, and master teacher, performing in prestigious concert halls worldwide with The Kent Camerata, the Transcontinental Piano Duo, and with professional colleagues across the United States. During her academic career of 35 years at the Arizona State University School of Music, Dr. Thompson taught studio piano, headed the graduate program in piano pedagogy, and was founding director of the ASU Piano Prep Program.
Paul Harper began at ASU in what is now the University Technology Office in 1981 and retired in 2011. Over the years he worked for the Chemistry department and for IT at ASU West before finally returning to UTO in 2007. After retiring from ASU he worked for Banner Health IT for seven years, happily retiring in 2018.
