Joyce Hartman Diaz, originally from Buffalo, NY, graduated from Russell Sage College [a small private woman’s college] in Troy, NY with a B.S. in Business. She served as a Buyer in the Purchasing Department at Texas A&M University for 4½ years. In 1984 she accepted a buyer position at ASU. In 1985 she left ASU to be at home with her two elementary/junior high school ‘latchkey kids’.
In 1990 she returned to ASU and for 17 years worked in the following departments: Botany, Economic Development, University Relations, and Office of Development where she worked on the 1995 Capital Campaign. A new challenge was offered from the Department of Geography where she worked as the Business Manager, until she retired in 2007.
She served on the ASURA board 2008-2011, was Treasurer for 2 of those years, chaired the Finance Committee one year, served two years on the Retirees Day Committee and most recently served on the History Book Committee. Some of her current volunteer activities include Habitat for Humanity, college fund raiser, neighborhood homeowners’ association board, and for the last 22 years, as a Gammage volunteer usher.
Her main passions are photography and travel. In retirement, she visits her children and grandchildren in California and her siblings on the East Coast, along with other adventures.
