Dr. Bode earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina after graduating from Villanova University.

He began his career teaching at Arizona State University and George Mason University, before transitioning to business at the Center for Naval Analysis, Ernest & Young (Arthur Young), Booz Allen Hamilton, Firestone, Revco Drug Stores, and Black and Decker, starting JJB Consultants, and then returning to teaching at George Washington University's business school.

In his spare time, he loved cycling and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Harriette White Bode, and his daughter and son-in-law.
