John Diggs Spragins
John Diggs Spragins, 82, died on December 24, 2016. John attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and completed his B.S. degree at Oklahoma A & M in 1952. He received his M.S. and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Stanford University in 1964. John taught at ASU, Duke University and North Carolina State University and Oregon State University. In 1980 he joined the faculty at Clemson University as a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering where he taught until 2000, achieving Professor Emeritus in 1996. He worked a sabbatical position for Hewlett Packard in Bristol, England as well as summer research positions in Boston, MA, Rüschlikon, Switzerland, and Christ Church, New Zealand. He was a member of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society and a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. John's textbook: Telecommunications, Protocol and Design, co-authored by Joe Hammond and Krys Pawlikowski, was adopted by over 80 universities around the world. John was married for 52 years to Catherine (Cathy) Lucy Rogers. He is survived by three children, six grandchildren and two siblings. He was preceded in death by a brother.
