Jean Guettel Mayer, 84, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 23, 2006. Born on April 13, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Albert Mayer, a Professor of Sociology at Arizona State University. Jean raised two sons and then went back to school in her 40's, eventually receiving a Master of Counseling from Arizona State at the age of 54. Soon after that she was hired as the first Director of the Senior Adult Program at Phoenix College, serving from 1978 to 1992. She is survived by her sons Robert and his wife Cheryl, Richard and her grandson Nathan, her brother Phillip Guettel and her niece Susan Robinson.
