James Stewart McAllister

James Stewart McAllister, 88, passed away on December 9, 2010. Mac was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 29th Infantry Division and as a cryptographer during WWII. He was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, and received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He was an instructor at Washington and Jefferson College and the Wharton School, and an Assistant Superintendent for Business Affairs at the Rochester Unified School District in New York. He moved his family to Phoenix in 1963 and spent 17 years with the Phoenix Union High School District in various roles, including Assistant Superintendent of Personnel, Chief Negotiator for the Board of Education, and Special Assistant to the Superintendent for Integration. Mac was also an Associate Faculty Member in the ASU College of Education, Executive Director of the Arizona School Administrators Association, and was elected to the National Boards of Directors and served as President of both the Arizona School Business Officials and Personnel Officials Associations. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Anne Roth McAllister, and is survived by a brother, three children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
