James Edward Diehl, Sr., 72, passed away on December 14, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Audrey Diehl, two siblings, four children and nine grandchildren. He attended college until he received a draft notice. He excelled at life in the Navy and served four years as an independent duty Corpsman. He then held a variety of jobs such as fireman, policeman, carpenter, before working nearly two decades in the paper production industry as a millwright. One special career highlight occurred in December of 1962 while employed as a police officer at ASU when he received a personal letter of gratitude from FBI Director, J. Edgar Hoover, for his role in apprehending a fugitive on the FBI's most wanted list.
