Jack Oliver Shafer, 64, of Mesa, AZ passed away at home on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from prostate cancer. A graduate of The University of Nebraska and a Veteran of the Air Force, it was Jack's work as an Administrator at Arizona State University that led to his real passion; cheering for the Sun Devils. Jack loved nothing more than watching games with his sons and their friends, having a drink and a bratwurst. He and Cheryl were season ticket holders for Men's Basketball and Football for more than 40 years and going to the games will not be the same without his running commentary and analysis. He was also a voracious reader and history buff, with a special interest in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, sons Mark and Brian, daughter-in-law Amy and brother Ron as well as many dear friends and relatives. Taken from us too soon, he was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
