June 18, 2015
van R. “Jack” Saddler, 96, died on June 18, 2015. He served in WWII and The Korean War. After serving in the Korean War, he entered college at Texas Western University (now UTEP) in Electrical Engineering. He and his wife moved to New Jersey where he worked for RCA for several years. After moving to Scottsdale in 1964, he began working in the semiconductor business at Motorola, where he spent the majority of his career. Just prior to his planned retirement from Motorola in 1982, he was contacted by the Technology Department at ASU and asked to become a professor. He greatly enjoyed teaching and continued to do so well into his 70s. He was very proud of starting a clean room where technology students and employees of various governmental agencies and corporations learned hands on how to make semiconductors. Ivan is survived by a daughter, a son and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Polly and by his eldest son. There will be a celebration of his life in the Fall of this year. Memorial donations should be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. For more information, please contact Scottsdale United Methodist Church.
