New Board member election

Two time-sensitive issues have come up since the March E-News was published.

New Board Member Election

The New Board Member Election is in progress, and we quickly got the “standard” 100+ votes from those who routinely vote and then the voting dropped. Voting is an easy way to show support for the things ASURA does and the people who have volunteered to make them happen. Even if you don’t participate in any of the offered activities or know any of the candidates, voting shows support for the existence of an association working to help ASU retirees. So, if you have not voted, please consider voting using one of the following ballots.

Loadstar Skilled Volunteer Sought

Last month we learned about the Global Secretariat of the Age-Friendly University Global Network (AFUGN). This month it is the ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation which is part of the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions. ASU is certainly involved in some amazing things. The following request comes from Sandra Freyer, Capacity Building Initiatives Program Manager.

Why This Request Is a Great Fit for ASURA Members

Many of you bring backgrounds in higher education, nonprofit leadership, fundraising, communications, or community engagement. This opportunity provides:

  • Meaningful, high‑level service without full‑time commitment
  • A chance to support Arizona teachers and public education
  • Flexibility, with hybrid or remote work possible
  • A structured project with clear supervision, milestones, and a stipend recognizing expertise
The Opportunity:

Within its Experience Matters program our Center is currently recruiting for a Skilled Volunteer to support a nonprofit organization which aims to elevate the teaching profession through increased recognition, compensation, and support in strengthening its fundraising and resource development capacity. This is a structured, year‑long placement designed to leverage the deep professional experience of retirees who enjoy contributing strategically to high‑impact community projects.

  • Role: Skilled Volunteer – Fundraising & Resource Development
  • Stipend: $18,000
  • Term: 12 months, approximately 1,000 hours
  • Service Focus:
    • Assess fundraising systems
    • Strengthen donor pipelines
    • Support annual fundraising planning
    • Grant research
    • Stewardship and donor communications improvements
How You Can Apply

The best pathway is the Skilled Volunteer Interest Form
https://www.tfaforms.com/286336. Sandra Freyer has also kindly offered to talk directly with any member interested in the opportunity. She can be reached at [email protected].

I hope we can help Sandra.
