Heinz Wipfler

Heinz Wipfler after high school he became a commercial artist and worked at the New York Times as an in-house artist for the Sunday Paper.

He left the New York Times to attend City College where he majored in history. He went on to Columbia University for an MA in art history and then the NYU Institute of Fine Arts for further study in Art History.

As an art historian Heinz taught at Arizona State University, The University of Connecticut and Queensborough Community College.

He retired from Queensborough in 1997 and he then joined the Art Students League where he studied painting. Heinz spent much of his retirement painting and writing poetry, and he attended classes at the Art Students League until it closed because of the pandemic in 2020.

Heinz is survived by his wife Arlene, a daughter, her husband, and a granddaughter.

A funeral service for Heinz was held on January 10, 2024.
