Gary Kent Nelson, 77, passed away on, May 17, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Juanita, siblings, four sons, 12 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He served as president of the ASU Alumni Association in 1988. He graduated ASU ROTC and served in the Army Intelligence Service. He then graduated from law school at the University of Arizona. Gary served as law clerk for then Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, Fred Struckmeyer. After a brief foray into private practice, he went to work for the prosecution in the state Attorney General's office in 1962. During that time, he served as the President of the National Association of Attorney's General. In 1974 He was appointed to the Arizona State court of Appeals by Governor Jack Williams. Four years later he lost the election to retain his Judgeship. He then served as Chief Staff Attorney for the Supreme Court of Arizona from 1979 until his retirement in 1997. A memorial will be held at 11:00 on June 5, at King of Glory Church Lutheran Church at 2085 E Southern Ave, Tempe, Arizona. (Source: ASU Foundation)
