Elmer Richard ("Dick") Munkachy, 88, passed away on May 7, 2013. Dick served in the Philippines and Japan during World War II and was recalled for duty in Korea, where he saw active combat for a second time. He graduated from Michigan State in Hotel and Restaurant Management and went on to a fruitful career with Saga Foods, providing meals at ASU and many other institutional and corporate dining facilities. He and his wife moved to Tempe in 1960. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, a daughter, a son and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son. Memorial services will be held at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E Southern Avenue, Tempe, on Wednesday, May 15 at 10:30 am. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of the Valley in memory of Dick Munkachy. (Source: Arizona Republic)
