Ed Monty
Professor Emeritus - Veterinary Education
Dr. Ed Monty, DVM, MS, PhD graduated from Litchfield High School and then AZ State College (now ASU). He received his DVM at CSU Fort Collins, CO and started a small animal practice in Flagstaff for several years. He was also Assistant State Veterinarian for AZ. He went on to become a professor at ASU and UofA, where he retired as Professor Emeritus. Throughout his career and during retirement, he worked extensively in underdeveloped countries around the world, helping develop veterinary education and livestock disease control programs funded by USAID, World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank. He worked in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Kenya, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal and Somalia. He was also involved in professional veterinary associations, such as the American VMA, AzVMA, and was president of the Central AZVMA and was named AZ Veterinarian of the Year in 1997 and 2005. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy, two his daughters, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two sons and his parents. At Ed's request, no memorial will be held. However, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in his name. |
