Regeneration
Since the May Board meeting was cancelled and the meeting was my main source of “news”, I was temped to not send out a May issue but for two reasons I wanted to send an issue:
- I wanted to complete the cycle of quotes I started in September and
- I wanted a chance to say goodbye as this is my final issue of E-News.
Even though we seem to be living in Dante’s Inferno and the following quotes are not too appropriate for Phoenix, I thought the sense of what May brings in these quotes is still appropriate and has not changed much over the centuries.
(1599) O, the month of May, the merry month of May. So frolic, so gay, and so green, so green, so green! – poem from the play The Shoemaker’s Holiday by Thomas Dekker
(1898) Queer things happen in the garden in May. Little faces forgotten to appear, and plants thought to be dead suddenly wave a green hand to confound you. – from the book Elizabeth and Her German Garden by Elizabeth von Arnim
(2013) May, more than any other month of the year, wants us to feel most alive – from A Meaningful Life – Fennel’s Journal – No.1 by Fennel Hudson
From the Board meeting
The Executive Committee discussed the need for a May meeting and decided no meeting was warranted.
May Social Security Column
Jack Burns, Public Affairs specialist for Arizona, Social Security Administration, prepared the following Social Security Information Manual for May.
Social Security offers free workshops. Readers can find the workshop schedule at www.phoenixpubliclibrary.org under the “Calendar” tab. Using search term “Medicare” will list all workshops for 2026.
Upcoming Events
At the moment there are only two scheduled activities but I think I heard about the possibility of something this summer. So, it is a good idea to stay tuned and check our Homepage for any new activities.
- Emeritus College – Emeritus College Continuing Education Courses Fall 2026
- Travel Committee – Canadian Rockies Adventure (April 2027)
There are also currently no AROHE (Association of Retirement Organizations in Higher Education) webinars or new Newsletters and as is the case with our events, this may change during the summer so you should periodically check our website.
Regeneration
As I indicated above this is my last issue of E-News. As with the Doctor, I’ve been feeling regeneration coming on the past few months. I’ve enjoyed my nine years as editor, trying to bring you tidbits from the Board meetings and other time sensitive information. I had fun thinking about how to start an issue; the quotes might be my best efforts. My regeneration is looking like Karen Dwyer, co-editor of Prime Times. I know you will welcome her version of E-News as much as you have accepted mine.
