The Annual Meeting came along and Will Stasi took over leadership of our Association. He has been very busy since the meeting getting the necessary correspondence with speakers and the ASU administration completed and in the mail. He is now moving on to fill some of the holes in the Association (see Volunteer Help Needed, below).
This will most likely be the last E-News until September and if that is the case I hope you all have a pleasant summer and maybe get a bit more travel in.
Board meeting notes
- After some discussion the Board approved returning to in-person meetings starting next September.
- Mary Stevens and her committee of Trudy Perez and Partha Dasgupta are planning for the return of the Meet and Greet next September. There was considerable discussion as to whether to plan for 60+ or 60- attendees. If the attendance is less than 60 then the classrooms on the third floor of CSB would be the best venue but if the attendance exceeds 60 then Ability360 seems like a good venue. Ability360 is a nice venue and we have held the Meet and Greet as well as the Holiday Pot Luck there. The Board is hopeful that the pre-pandemic level of interest, e.g., 60+ attendees, exists but was unsure and the issue was left unresolved.
- Tara Roesler, Chair of the Obituary Committee, wished that ASU people writing obituaries would include a bit more about service to ASU, e.g., Department, years of service, position(s) held, etc. She would like to spice up the obituary postings but many obituaries do not have much ASU spice.
- Dick Jacob, ASURA’s ASRS Liaison, reported that the State Retirement Fund was weathering the current stock market trials and tribulations well due to its very diversified portfolio.
Pre-retirement seminar
The May seminar is next Monday at noon and features a panel of some very interesting people: Fred Corey, Dan Shunk, and Pat Schneider. The panel will be discussing “Lessons from Retirees”. This looks like a winner that you will not want to miss (see https://asura.asu.edu/pre-retirement-seminars-0 for more details and Zoom address).
Membership renewal
It is that time of the year: time to renew your membership. We hope to be back to pre-pandemic activity levels. Our events committees (Luncheons and Special Events, Pre-retirement Seminars, Seminars, and Travel) are all busy with robust plans for next year. So don’t miss out. Renew when you get your notice.
