Douglas Sheppard

Douglas C. Sheppard, 93, passed away on January 25, 2016. He served in World War II and was discharged in 1947 as a first lieutenant. He received his Bachelors degree in 1948 from the University of Montana. Sheppard continued his studies in Spanish and linguistics at the University of Wisconsin, earning his PhD in 1956. He earned a post-doctoral fellowship to continue his studies in Spain. Dr. Sheppard was Chair of the Departments of Foreign Languages at the University of Montana and at ASU, retiring from ASU in 1986. He also served on the faculties of University of Connecticut, University of New York at Buffalo, and West Virginia University. He is survived by his wife, MaryBelle Sheppard, two children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter.
