Donald Cuthbert Locke

Donald Cuthbert Locke, 80, passed away on December 6, 2010. Donald was born in Guyana, South America. He studied art in London and Edinburgh. During the 1970s, he lived and worked in London. In 1979 Locke was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and he became artist in residence at ASU until 1990, when he and his wife moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Locke has received international acclaim for his extensive body of work, exhibiting in biennials and solo shows in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Hungary, Italy, the UK and the United States. His gallery shows include Atlanta and the Tucson Museum of Art. He is represented by Skoto Gallery in NY and the Stella Jones Art Gallery in New Orleans. His last two years have been incredibly productive, with solo shows in the UK and the US, the production of a new body of works in ceramics, publication of a monograph of Five Decades of mixed media sculptures, and the celebration of his 80th birthday. Donald Locke is survived by his wife of 30 years Brenda, three children, a brother, his in-laws, five grandchildren plus nieces and nephews.
