Donald Douglas Dalgleish, 80, passed away on July 7, 2010. Douglas earned his Bachelors degree from Carlton College located in Minnesota. He was drafted for military service but chose to enlist in the U.S. Army Intelligence Service for which he was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany through 1954-1957. During his time in Germany he also attended the University of Munich as a Fulbright Scholar from 1960-1961 and met his future wife Christa. After being discharged and returning to the U.S., Douglas Earned his Masters Degree at Columbia University in NYC, and achieved his PHD at the University of Colorado. In 1962 Douglas, Christa and their 2 children moved to Paradise Valley, Arizona. Douglas began his long successful career as a Professor of political science at ASU. He was the first civilian Professor to Military Science in the history of the ROTC. He is an accomplished author (TRIDENT), lecturer, and historian on military affairs as it relates to the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. In his 40 years at ASU he taught Air and Army ROTC in the areas of Defense Policy, Soviet studies, U.S. Foreign Policy and was instrumental in providing the background in these studies to the ROTC cadets for their future military careers. Professor Dalgleish was a patriot and always gave of his time to lecture publicly to groups regarding military and Soviet Developments. He was a valuable source of information to the staff, faculty and cadets in an area that is little known to the average American. Professor Dalgleish was awarded many distinguishing Military and civilian service awards. Douglas is predeceased by a son. He is survived by his wife Christa and a daughter.
