February 27, 2006

Diane Snodgrass Bickford, our mother, wife, sister and friend lost her five year battle with inflammatory breast cancer on February 27, 2006. She beat the medical odds and lived well past the doctors expectations. She was a miracle. A proud Arizona native, she was born March 15, 1944 in Phoenix to Clarence and Mary Alice (Phillips) Snodgrass. She dedicated her life to providing a loving home and raising her daughter. The extra time her spirit brought her made it possible for her to be at her daughter Lenna's marriage to Jared Bowman and later the birth of her grandson Max. She treasured her time with her family and friends. She maintained close friendships with her friends from school, neighbors and the many clubs and groups to which she belonged. She enjoyed being involved in "Bunko", Book Club and Circle. She greatly appreciated the support she received from the Wellness Community and the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Support Group. She also gave back to the community through her volunteer work with the Phoenix Zoo and Good Samaritan Hospital. She loved to travel and she and her husband Bill were able to experience many wonderful places together. They even spent a year in Nairobi, Kenya. Bill had taken a sabbatical from his professorship at Arizona State University to teach at the University of Nairobi. Her positive and energetic spirit will be greatly missed by those of us grieving our loss. She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Bickford; her children: Lenna (Jared) Bowman, Jenny Bickford and Tom (Sharon) Bickford; sisters: Karen (Raymond) Whitehurst and Margaret (Reynold) DuBois; brother, Jim (Linda) Snodgrass; sister-in-law Trish Snodgrass; nieces, Erika (Steve) Smith, Raina Snodgrass; nephews Dean (Tammy) Metzger and Nicholas Snodgrass; great nephews, Michael Metzger and Connor Smith; great nieces, Jessica Metzger and Taylor Smith and dearest of all, her grandchildren, Max Bowman, Laura, Sam and Jack Bickford. We know that her many cousins, aunts and friends will also share our loss.
