David Wayne Patton
Professor, W. P. Carey School of Business
David Wayne Patton, 74, passed away March 7, 2017. He graduated from ASU in 1964 where he was a member and president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He completed a master's degree in healthcare administration from the University of Minnesota and a three year tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force Medical Service Corps, attaining the rank of Captain. He began his career in Phoenix where he served as an assistant administrator of Maricopa County Medical Center, and was chair of the planning committee to relocate the medical center to its present Roosevelt Street address. He went on to spend 30 years as CEO of hospitals located in South Dakota, Colorado, California and Hawaii. In mid-career he earned an MBA and Ph.D. in management from the Claremont Graduate University, and finished his career as a professor in the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU. He was a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Dr. Patton was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his mother, three brothers, two children, five grandchildren, two step children, four step grandchildren and one step great grandson.
