David Krus, 71, passed away October 12, 2011. David was born in Susice, Czechoslovakia, (shortly after the country was annexed by Nazi Germany). After his country was occupied by the Soviet Union, he was drafted into military service. He suffered a disabling injury, and when released, he was given a permit to immigrate to the United States. He then studied statistics at the University of Minnesota and was awarded his PhD. Subsequently, he worked for a brief time at the University of Southern California. In 1975 he became an Assistant Professor at ASU, where he taught for 30 years. He also taught or did research at universities in Germany, France, Japan, Taiwan and China. Dave was a leader in the development and dissemination of order analysis and visual statistics, a computer based system for dynamically portraying statistical relationships. He published Principles of Statistics: Data Visualization and Statistics; The East-West Dimension: Wars and Conflict Resolutions in Chinese and Western Societies; The War with Japan, and numerous other books and articles. These were important contributions to teaching, research, and conflict resolution research. He was also a strong advocate for world peace. David is survived by his wife Yung, two daughters and a sister. Remembrance written by Ed Nelson, ASU Professor Emeritus.
