Charles "Chuck" Scales Sargent, 78, passed away on February 3, 2015.  He completed his B.A. at the University of Wyoming, his M.A. at UC Berkeley, and finished his Ph.D. study and dissertation at UC Berkeley on the evolution of Buenos Aires. His first teaching job was at the University of Nebraska followed by 22 years of teaching at ASU from 1971-1993, specializing in urban geography and Latin America. His analysis and writing on the evolution of the Phoenix metropolitan area provided the foundation upon which much has since been built. After retiring from ASU Charlie spent several months a year on cruise ships giving lectures and traveling the world. He is survived by a sister, a brother, and Martha Spruell, his partner for the last 17 years. Donations in his memory can be made to the Salvation Army or the Arizona Humane Society. (Source: Arizona Republic)
