Charles L. Eveland

Charles L. Eveland, 86, passed away on February 17, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Jean, one daughter, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two brothers. A son predeceased him. Charles was a graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Maryland, a Master's degree from Baylor University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He completed a distinguished 30-year career as Colonel in the Medical Service of the U.S. Army, including tours of duty in Germany at the end of WWII and played a key role in the evacuation of troops from the Chosin Reservoir in Korea during the heat of that conflict. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star among other decorations. After leaving the Army he became Director of the Baylor Graduate Program in Health Administration. Later became the founding Director and Professor of a similar program at ASU and at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico. He was inducted into ASU’s Faculty Hall of Fame as Professor Emeritus. He also served as Executive Director of Alaska's Medicaid Rate Commission, as consultant to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and as a member of a blue ribbon committee for the White House National Productivity Commission, studying health costs. There will be a private service aboard ship out of Dana Point Harbor on March 27th.
