Barent Leroy Grebles

Barent Leroy "Roy" Grebles, 95, died October 19, 2010. Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lenore (d. 2008), parents, stepmother, sister and brother. He is survived by three children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Roy served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 in Naval Intelligence and on the USS Dortch while Lenore worked on Mustang B-51s at Northrup Aviation. In 1951, Roy and Lenore moved to Phoenix. Roy worked for Allstate Insurance Company, and owned an independent insurance agency for many years. In 1967 he was employed as industrial safety engineer by the Arizona Safety Council until 1972, when he was employed by the Arizona Industrial Commission, Division of Occupational Safety and Health until retirement in 1983. From 1973 to 1981 he served as an evening instructor in the ASU, Center for Executive Development's "Supervisory Management" program. After retirement he continued as a safety engineer, self employed dba Roy Grebles & Associates, principally engaged as municipal safety consultant for various municipalities and other political subdivisions. Two of Roy's great interests were occupational safety and health. He served in a leadership role for several insurance associations and as president of the non-profit Maricopa County Traffic Survival School, Inc., and was a member of a number of safety associations. In 1971 he received a "citation of merit" from Arizona Governor Jack Williams for "outstanding and dedicated service in the development of traffic survival schools".
