Barbara R. Trimmer
Lecturer - Reading Specialist
Barbara R. Trimmer attended the University of Northern Colorado Lab School from kindergarten through high school and later earned a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She twice received recognition as an outstanding primary teacher while in Arizona and lectured at Arizona State University as a reading specialist. Her innovative teaching methods caught the attention of Hollywood, and she was featured in an instructional video. In 1967, Barbara became a beloved first-grade teacher at Jay Partridge Elementary. Barbara made a lasting impact on hundreds of students over her 30-year tenure. Barbara introduced her students to the first Apple computer at the school. A highlight of Barbara's Chico career was being honored by Disney as the North State Teacher of the Year. Barbara is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard Trimmer; a son and daughter-in-law; three grandsons, and a brother. A Celebration of Life was held August 10, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the nonprofit literacy program Reading Pals Chico. |
