Arthur Milton Whiting

Arthur Milton “Mickey" Whiting, 87, passed away on June 2, 2016. He attended BYU briefly, before transferring to ASU where he graduated with a business degree. In 1952, Mickey, his dad and three brothers formed Kaibab Lum be r Company in Fredonia, Arizona. Later, a cousin joined in and the extended Whiting family built Whiting Bros. Servi ce Stations along Route 66 and throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, California, Utah and Nevada. Kaibab Lumber Company diversified and evolved into Kaibab Industries, Inc. and under his leadership, the company grew to be one of the top 10 privately held companies in Arizona, with 1200 employees, and operations in 8 western states, as well as Mexico. During Mickey’s life, he served in many leadership positions and on the boards of directors of many companies and industry organizations. In 1987, Mickey and his wife, Lorana, established the Kaibab Industries Scholarship at ASU. It provides a one-time $2,500 award to a new ASU freshman each year. Three siblings preceded Mickey in death. He is survived by his wife, Lorana, five children, 20 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren.
