Ann Lowman Patterson
ASU Alumni Association
Ann Lowman Patterson attended Miami University (OH) where she earned a BA and MA. In 1957, Ann moved to Tempe, Arizona, and began her career at the Columbus Dispatch, then became the women's editor for the Phoenix Gazette. Once her children were slightly grown, she returned to journalism. She wrote for the ASU Alumni Association, and later, about architecture and interior design at The Arizona Republic. After she retired, Ann continued writing and contributing to her community. She worked with the Tempe Historic Preservation and Tempe Arts Commissions, tutored adults in English, and helped children with reading at Broadmor School. At her 89th birthday party, Ann was honored by Tempe's mayor for her contributions. To her delight, it was declared "Ann Patterson Day." Ann is survived by her sister, and her four children. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and beloved husband, Bob. Donations may be made in Ann's memory at the Tempe Community Action Agency, which is dedicated to eliminating poverty and advancing equitable communities in Tempe. |
