Alvin L. Sorensen
Alvin L. Sorensen, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 6, 2011. Al served in the U.S. Marine Corps and earned his bachelor's degree in industrial arts from Montana State University. He moved to Phoenix in 1957 and worked at Reynolds Metal. In 1961, he started his teaching career at William C. Jack School near 66th and Missouri avenues. Al then earned a master's degree in industrial arts from Northern Arizona University in 1961, and went on to teach carpentry and auto repair classes at Phoenix Union High School in 1969 and ASU. He completed his coursework for a PhD but never obtained the degree; he had too many of his own projects to accomplish. He retired in 1984. Al is preceded in death by two sisters. He is survived by wife Margaret, two siblings, four children, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
