Aaron Stephen Moore, 47, passed away on September 8, 2019. Aaron received elementary, middle and high school education mostly abroad: Japan and Vienna, Austria; following his father who was a diplomat. Aaron graduated from UVA, majoring in history. He then went to Japan to teach English in the Zet program. After that, Aaron attended Cornell, achieving his MA and Ph.D degrees in Asian history. He taught history at MIT and Ohio University. In 2008 Aaron came to ASU as associate professor of history at ASU’s School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies. He published the book "Constructing East Asia", Technology, Ideology, and Colonization in Japan's Wartime Era 1931-1945 from Stanford University. Aaron was working on the second book in the series: Soyanggang Dam building for electricity under the president, Chunghi Park. He gave lectures frequently abroad at Oxford University, Tubingen, Tokyo, and Seoul National University; traveling to many countries in South East Asia in order to collect research materials. Aaron is survived by his wife, Nila Bhattacharjya. (Source: ASU Foundation)
