Retirees Day
Retirees Day 2010
Perhaps the most anticipated and best-supported ASURA sponsored program is its annual Retirees Day event. The 2010 Retirees Day Committee has pulled out all the stops to make the occasion a must-attend experience.
Mark your 2010 calendar for Saturday, February 20th so you can catch this popular affair which will be held at the Memorial Union on the ASU Tempe Campus. Remember it's a Saturday so parking will be hassle-free!
The keynote luncheon speaker will be the highly-respected TV journalist and political commentator Hugh Downs. Mr. Downs, one of the most familiar American television figures in the history of television was anchor for ABC News' 20/20 from 1978 to 1999, concentrating on issues of medicine, science, family, adventure, aging and the arts. Hugh Downs has enjoyed a distinguished career in radio and television as a reporter, newscaster, interviewer, narrator and host. You must come to see and hear this remarkable individual in person.
The Retirees Committee has also put together a most informative and entertaining variety of concurrent sessions presented by well-known speakers that will meet the interests of everyone. Some subjects to be covered will be social barriers to renewable energy, national health care reform, lesser known tourist attractions in Arizona, financial planning for retirement, ASU Arboretum's heritage trees, politics and art, extreme speech and democracy and more. A well-experienced panel will discuss elements and suggestions for writing your personal history.
Morning refreshments will be provided and a plated luncheon and dessert will be served at mid-day in the MU Ventana Ballroom.
Don't miss this exciting, interesting and educational event. Make plans to be with us on February 20th. More details will be forthcoming as the event draws nigh.
Retirees Day in General
The annual ASURA Retirees Day is a major event that is usually attended by 100 or more members.
Included on the agenda are:
- Educational sessions. You can usually choose among 3 choices for each of the first two hours. The topics are chosen by our Education Committee, which is always interested in suggestions from the membership for topics and presenters or speakers.
- Lunch, with a lunch speaker.
Not included on the agenda, but of equal interest and importance, are the chance for you to catch up with old friends and to meet new people with whom you share an interest.
We have reports available on past Retirees Days, so you can see what we mean.
